IRIS

IRIS (Innovative Research Infrastructure on applied Superconductivity) is a PNRR program devoted to realize a new distributed research infrastucture finalized to applied superconductivity. It will take care of Green Energy superconducting line, and sustainable high field magnets for accelerators. The Salerno group, made of UniSA, INFN and CNR, will set up a new test facility for 120m long superconducting cable able to carry up to 40 kA of current at 25 kV (i.e. a 1 GW power). IRIS was funded with 60 M€, of which 25M€ will be invested for the Salerno pole. Activities started on Nov. 1st, 2022.

Local activities:

realize a new laboratory in Salerno University Fisciano Campus.

Main equipment:

cryogenic refrigerator for 20K GHe, 40 kA 10V Power Converter, 50 kV power Supply, UHV pumping systems, etc.
